Who Can Apply
- Centennial
College or George Brown College students currently enrolled
in their final year of a two-year Events Management diploma
program (eligible programs: Hospitality & Tourism Administration
with a Special Events Management elective at Centennial College
and Special Events Planning-Destination Tourism at George Brown
College)
- Students
currently in their final work placement prior to graduating
from the two above-mentioned programs.
- Applicants
must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants
- Applicants
must not have received any other Ontario Hostelry Institute
Award
IMPORTANT,
PLEASE NOTE: An identical award is being offered by Metro Toronto
Convention Centre through the Canadian Hospitality Foundation www.chfscholarships.com.
A student should apply for one or the other, not for both, as the
two awards will not be awarded to the same student.
How to Apply
Complete the application
form (print legibly) and send to the address below. Faxed applications
are not acceptable. The application form must be accompanied
by the following and missing or incomplete documents may be grounds
for elimination:
- Most
current official transcripts of your complete academic history
at the college you are enrolled in now
- One
or more letters of recommendation from your program instructor
and/or administrator
- One
or more letters of recommendation from your past or current
employers (reference letters for volunteer activities will also
be considered)
- An
approximately 300-word essay giving reasons why you are drawn
to the event management field of the hospitality industry and
why you think you will succeed in it. Describe where you
see yourself professionally five years from now
- Resume
Please
Note: Letters of recommendation must include telephone and/or
email information. The Foundation reserves the right to check
all references.

in February 2008
Judging Criteria
Applications are reviewed by an independent
panel of judges appointed by the Foundation and will be judged on
the following criteria. Points assigned to each of the criteria
from a total of 100 points are as follows:

Work experience (20)
- Scholastic
record (20)
- Extracurricular
activities both in school and in the community (20)
- Letters
of recommendation (20)
- Essay
(10)
- Other
considerations such as presentation quality of application;
special financial need; etc. (10)
Payment
of Award Money
Payment is made directly to the
college for credit toward the recipients tuition fees. If
the tuition fee has already been paid, the scholarship money will
then be paid to the student by the school. The scholarship
money will be paid in full by mid-November of the year the scholarship
is awarded. .
Deadline
Applications must be received no
later than Monday, April 30, 2007. Results of the scholarship
judging will be posted on the Institutes web site www.ohischolarships.com
by the end of June 2007.
